Turkey Cookies With Candy Corn Cutter

These little turkey cookies came to me when I was making these flamingo cookies. While icing the flamingos my brain immediately thought of dozens of other bird cookies that could come from a candy corn cookie cutter.  I just LOVE it when designs are this simple yet this cute. You just can’t beat that combination.

Step 1: Use template or cookie cutter to outline the beak with an edible marker.

Step 2: With light brown icing, outline and flood the main parts of the Turkey’s face. While the icing is still wet pipe pink dots on for the cheeks and drop sugar pearls just over the pink cheeks. You can wait and simply pipe the eyes on after this part has dried as well. Place cookies in front of a fan to dry immediately until the white has crusted over. Without this step, you may risk the black pearl bleeding into the icing. Let crust over before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Outline and fill the beak and the hair. Let crust over before moving on to the next step.

Step 4: For the details, I like to switch my tips to #1 or #1.5 tips, #2 would work if that’s all you have. That’s up to you! Starting with the brown 20-second icing add details to the hair and eyebrows. Fill the hair, add sprinkles for a little texture if you would like! Next, use the yellow outline icing to add nostrils and a smile. Add a little snood with coral/red 20-second icing.

Tada! Now you are all ready for Thanksgiving with the cutest turkeys around! Who needs all those fancy cutters when you have a turkey made from a candy corn cutter? Psh. Not me.

Just kidding. Give me all the cutters!
