Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies

A few posts ago I shared that I was on a #teamturkey kick this year. As a recap, I made a promise to myself to spend a little more time focusing on Thanksgiving and not get distracted by the sparkling lights and glitter of Christmas just yet. Although I can’t promise I haven’t been rocking out to Christmas carols (since like September), I’m feeling pretty good about my #teamturkey commitment this year! The Thanksgiving section here on the new(ish) site is no longer empty, I still have several new Thanksgiving turkey cookies to share, AND wait for it….I haven’t shared a single Christmas post on Instagram. I mean what is life right now. How is this happening? I’m typically the girl who it peaking at Christmas decor November 1 and sipping peppermint coffee November 2.

Small confession: I bought some new ornaments this morning. Overall though, I’d say I have been pretty darn good. You hear that Santa?

Although I am feeling a little guilty about these Thanksgiving turkey cookies, mostly because I’ve been having so much fun creating little smiling turkeys then POOF, your cooked bird. I mean if you think about it why is Thanksgiving the only holiday we eat the mascot? As far as mythical holiday creatures go, I’d say Tom the turkey has it pretty bad. Poor guy.

Let’s be real though, I can’t spend too much time feeling bad for Tom because these Thanksgiving Turkey breast cookies are so freaking cute. So freaking cute. They fall into all the categories of my favorite things. Few colors, easy, awesome cookie cutter flip, – sprinkles. What more could you need? Speaking of cutter flip, did you guys notice what cutter the turkey breast cookies were made of? Take a nice close look!

Did you catch it? Yes? No? It’s a puppy cutter!!! Yep, a Thanksgiving turkey made from a puppy cookie cutter. Again, what is life? This is the puppy cutter from Shape Shifters 2 and the tiny little turkey legs are a 3in turkey leg cutter from Periwinkles.

Step 1: Bake Thanksgiving turkey cookies using a puppy cutter, or similar shape.

Step 2: Using the brown icing, outline and flood the baby turkey breast. Sprinkle on little brown sprinkles to give it texture if you would like. Let crust over.

Step 3: Outline and flood turkey legs, leave a little room at the bottom for the garnish. Let crust over.

Step 4: Add two dots on each side for the “bone” then use the green outline icing + leaf tip to create garnish. Finish with little sprinkle “berries”. For small leaves like this, I simply cut a small “V” at the end of a tipless bag. Turn the point side up with piping.
