Panda Cookies

Over the years as I’ve learned to bake + decorate desserts I’ve learned there is one ultimate worst customer. The kind that wants to tell you every little detail of the design, choose a complex flavor combination, maintain a no-compromise attitude, and yet expect you to create the entire thing…for free! You guys know the ones I’m talkign about don’t you, yep your kids! If you’ve baked for your own children you know exactly what I’m talking about don’t you? These panda cookies went down just like that.

Panda Cookies - Tutorial + FREE Projector Template

My oldest kiddo requested panda cookies for Valentine’s Day. She is obsessed with pandas, you could call it a panda-emic. But I was not allowed to create a beary cute saying to go with. And she was practically devastated at the sheer mention of me turning the pandas cute Valentine’s Day colors. FUN SUCKER. So we agreed on traditional no non- sense panda cookies with accents in the same colors of her room. And when I say we agreed, I mean she got exactly what she wanted. In the end, I secretly just want her to love them.

Just in case you have a minature you hanging around demanding 22 pandas. And those cute little bamboo cookies? I got a little creative with a Sugarbelle rainbow cutter to make bamboo + florals!

DECORATOR’S TIP: Icing with black and white together can be a nightmare due to color bleed so let’s cover that right away. Two ways I prevent this is to keep both my white icing and my black icing a fluffy (thick) 20-second icing. The other is to always work with a fan. As soon as the icing has been piped I place a fan over the cookies to help them crust over quickly. I do not move on until the first later has crusted over just a bit. No bleed here!

Step 1: First, use the projector template (or print and cut) to trace the large black eye spots of the panda as well as the lines that seperate the ears from the face if you need them.

Step 2: Using white 20-second icing, outline and flood the white of the panda. Pipe two dots on for the cheeks just under the eye spots using light pink 20-second icing. Place under a fan to let icing crust over.

Step 3: Next, outline and flood the ears with black 20-second icing. Using a pair of tweezers drop in sugar pearls for eyes. Add black sprinkles to the ears/eye spots if you would like. I love the extra texture it adds. Place back under the fan right away to prevent and bleeding.

Step 4: Once the the face has crusted over add a nose with white 20 second icing. Use the projector template to speed up this process if you would like!

Step 5: Once the nose has crusted over add a little heart nose with the light pink icing, a mouth with black icing (I use PME tip #1), and a few dots for the florals. Finish with a few small leaves!

DECORATOR’S TIP: You can use the projector template + projector to add the details on with ease! This keeps things nice and consistent for me.

I can’t wait to see your cute panda creations! Hopefully, your “customers” are far more kind than mine, ha! Don’t forget to tag me in your treats!
