Nacho Cookies – With FREE Printables!

For the record, and incase you didn’t know, nacho cookies are so freaking popular. Like really popular. With all the possible pun material available it’s not hard to see why nacho cookies have made their way to internet popularity. I mean everybody loves nachos, everybody loves cookies, and everybody loves a good cheesy pun. (Totally intended.)  I’ve been resisting the temptation to make nacho cookies for quiet sometime, despite my love for foods in disguise, simply because I try to be creative and outside the box.

But the moment I saw an end of the school year cookie set with the title “Nacho problem anymore!” (Sadly I could not find the original source to share.) I knew I finally had to create my own version of nacho cookies! To put my own creative spin on them I turned them into an entire platter with cheesy nacho cookies, jalapeños, meat, diced tomatoes, and even a little dollops of guac and sour cream.  Just like my salad cookies and burger cookies, this platter is made of simple cookies that come together to make one sweet nacho cookie platter!

These nacho cookies then made their way to the kiddos’ teachers for an end of the year treat. After all you know I personally believe teachers deserve all the cookies, all the days! Since I wanted to keep the look of the plate of nachos I opted for a printable to convey my message instead of piping or stenciling on a cookie. The printable of course read: Congrats, they are NACHO problem anymore!

I simply wrapped each plate up in cling wrap and attached the printable note on top with washi tape. Because I love you so much, I am making my teacher printable available to you all! Annndddddd because I couldn’t resist I also made a version for Father’s Day which reads “You are NACHO average dad!” Seriously, I can’t ever get enough cheesy puns. The best part about these FREE printables is you can use them three ways on your cookies.

  1. Print and cut to use as tags.
  2. Use image with projector to easily pipe message on your cookie.
  3. Upload into you personal cutter software (Like Silhouette Design Studio) and use as a cut file to make your own stencil!

HOW TO MAKE A NACHO COOKIES PLATTER

Now let’s take a closer look at how I made each of the nacho elements. If you’re a cookie rookie no worries! Be sure to check these posts Rolled Cookies 101 + Royal Icing 101.

SUPPLIES

  • orange 20 second royal icing
  • brown 20 second royal icing
  • red 20 second royal icing
  • green outline royal icing
  • green 20 second royal icing
  • white 20 second icing
  • light green soft outline icing (should not come completely back together for guac texture)
  • small green pearl sprinkles
  • brown sanding sugar
  • orange, brown, green, and red gel colors

TOOLS

Step 1: Color, cut, and bake your cookie dough. For the cookie “chips” sprinkle brown sanding sugar on the dough. They will melt into specks when baked.

Step 2: Use 20 second royal icing in bottles or piping bags to outline and flood; meat, tomato, and sour cream. For the nacho cheese simply freehand cheese drips with an outline and flood.

Step 3: Next outline and flood the guac cookies, however, do not smooth out when finished. This creates a little texture. If needed you can use a pointed tool to create a little texture.

Step 4: To make the jalapeños use an edible food marker to trace three little circles onto the cookie. Outline the entire circle first, then the smaller circles, and then finish with a few drops of 20 second icing to fill in the rest of the jalapeños. This will leave you three open spots. Add a few small green pearl sprinkles to the center to make the seeds. If your don’t have pearl sprinkles, wait until the green icing drys and pipe on little dots instead using some left over green from your guac icing.

And that’s it, nacho cookie platter complete! Print your printables (above) and you’re all set to be the coolest cookie giver ever.
