Bone Cookie Sprinkle Shakers

I’ve got this feeling inside my bones….it’s SPRINKLES! Does that really surprise you though? I mean if I have anything in my bones it’s gonna be sprinkles. I mean I practically eat breath and sleep sprinkles so it only makes sense. You don’t even want to know about the frosting content in my blood…so we’ll just move on to the Halloween Bone Cookies + SPRINKLE SHAKERS! Yes, cookies that you can play with! Well I mean I pretty much encourage all cookie interaction…but these dispense sprinkles!

SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE! Shake those bones! Wouldn’t these be such a great project for Halloween parties?! Creepy, but cute. #Halloweengoals

Halloween bone cookies with sprinkles

A few years ago I made some bone cookies just like this that never made it to the blog. BOO. And even though this design is crazy simple it’s one I just really love. So I wanted to finally bring them to the blog this year, but because I love to complicate things like I do, why not fill those bad boys with sprinkles? Uh yes, yes please. Disclaimer, I may have had this to die for Sugar Skull sprinkle mix laying around for like months waiting on me to use it. So there’s a possibility these cookies were all a scheme to use more sprinkles. I’ll never tell.

a step by step photo of making Halloween bone cookies

Ready to make some simple shaker cookies, let’s shake those bones!

RECIPES

black chocolate rolled cookies
royal icing

SUPPLIES

20 second white royal icing
Sugar Skull Sprinkles

TOOLS

bone cutter
edge cutter
piping bag
small round tip

BAKE COOKIES + MAKE ICING

Step 1: Bake rolled cookies cutting out 2/3 regular bones and 1/3 bones with cut outs.  If you want a nice gorgeous black rolled cookie this is the recipe I used. It’s like a softer version of an Oreo! In order to do this the easy way simply place your cut out bone on the parchment paper exactly where you want to bake it and then use the edge tool to cut out a spot for your sprinkles to store. If you don’t have an edge cutter this could be done pretty easy with a knife or another cutter, get creative!

Step 2: After the cookies are cool whip up a batch of royal icing thinned to a 20 second consistency.

DECORATE THE HALLOWEEN BONE COOKIES

Step 3:“Glue” the bottom cookie and the cutout middle cookie together with icing. Decorate the top cookie with the easy bone design. You will want to pipe two dots first and let set until they crust over a little (about 15minutes) then pipe the other two dots and the bone lines.

Step 4: Once your icing has dried (several hours-overnight), fill the cutout with sprinkles and then glue on the top of the cookie. Store the cookies nice and flat until ready to play, I mean eat!

This should have been posted days ago. I want to r This should have been posted days ago. I want to recognize that up front.

I needed a few days for my words to catch up to my heart. Here’s my truth - social media currently feels like a minefield.
While desperately wanting to show love and support for the black community…knowing how to properly do so on screen feels impossible in the moment. Do we post, do we not post? Does my lack of posts say something? Does my posting of anything else reflect disrespect? How do we support and take real action? What SHOULD I be posting? While some may find strength in people being “muted” other mays desperately need the vocal public demonstration of support and love. It feels like any possible move might create damage to another soul and/or an explosion your heart truly never meant to set off. Like navigating an emotion minefield.
But at some point you have to move. You have to make a choice, and take a stand. Even if you get it wrong. I’m not going to chance remaining quiet when one single person may need to hear my voice to set off their own ripple of change our country so desperately needs.
I’m a white female who grew up in a predominately white community, currently raising my own children in a predominately black community. I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I have always got it right. Or that I even have it right now. But I can tell you down to my core, I want to get it right. And I will continue to make the effort to create the long over due change we need. I believe that change starts at home, in the heart. That change starts with me and my kids. With you and yours. That change starts with me gifting my daughter every skin tone baby doll I could find for Christmas so she could physically see and admire the beautiful types of people in her own play. In her own heart at the age of 2. That change comes from years and decades of conversation and physical demonstration of the ADMIRATION and love of different skin tone. We’re not color blind. We see our differences in melanin, AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL. THAT CHANGE COMES FROM ONE LITTLE GIRL SEEING HER SKIN TONE IN YOUR COOKIES.
Keywords = heart, home, years, decades. 🙌🏿🙌🏾🙌🏽🙌🏼🙌🏻 (CONTINUED IN COMMENTS!
Not just today. Always. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 #blackouttuesday
